Firefighters battle Eastside house blaze; one injured

One firefighter suffered minor injuries Wednesday afternoon as more than two dozen firefighters battled a house blaze in the 200 block of Flower Street, officials said.
Firefighters arrived within minutes of the call at 4:36 p.m. and found neighbors trying to put out the already considerable blaze. The fire appears to have been accidental, authorities said.
A live power line hanging loose over the home complicated efforts, Battalion Chief Scott Broussard said.
Two pets died in the fire, which officials said caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. A loose board with a nail attached fell and punctured the injured firefighter’s forehead, Broussard said. He was treated at a local hospital and released, officials said.
