Corona del Mar High senior Fabian Matthews, the Pacific Coast League singles champion, was also named the league MVP in voting by league coaches.
Matthews, headed to UC Irvine, played No. 1 singles for the Sea Kings for three years. He was undefeated in league play this year and also won his third straight CIF Southern Section Individuals championship, just the third player ever to do so. Matthews’ first two titles were in doubles, and this year he won in singles.
CdM sophomore Ryan Peyton was named first-team All-Pacific Coast League. Earning second-team honors were seniors Bryan Buchert and Brent Pham, junior Chris Damion, sophomore Gabino Felgueroso and freshman Shane Korber. Korber also earned the league sportsmanship award.
In Coach Tim Mang’s final season, Corona del Mar finished second in league and advanced to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs.
