Time to renew your Shopper Parking Permits

Laguna Beach Shopper Parking Permits will expire July 31, and applications for new permits, valid from Aug. 1 through July 31, 2010, will be mailed to current permit holders. Residents who do not receive an application by May 31 should call (949) 497-0314 with their name and mailing address to have an application mailed to them. Applications will be processed by mail only and proof of residence within the city of Laguna Beach is required.

The cost of the two-year Shopper Parking Permit is $80 each for the first two permits and $150 each for the third and fourth permits. Each residence is limited to four Shopper Parking Permits with proof of residence. Additionally, people applying for a third and fourth permit must provide a copy of each of the four vehicles’ Department of Motor Vehicles registration certification with the application. Vehicles with outstanding parking citations are not eligible for this program until the citations are paid in full.

The city will accept Visa and MasterCard payments for permits. Credit card information may be submitted with the parking permit application. Applications will be processed by mail only until Aug. 31. Walk-in applications will be accepted beginning Sept. 1.

Fire safety program to be Tuesday at Woman’s Club

Fire ecologist Richard Halsey of the California Chaparral will present “Living on the Wilderness-Urban Interface: Can we combine fire safety with habitat protection?” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Woman’s Club, 286 St. Ann’s Drive.

The Laguna Greenbelt Inc. is sponsoring the fire safety program.

Other co-sponsors are the South Laguna Civic Assn., Temple Hills Community Assn., Top of the World Neighborhood Assn. and Village Laguna.

Homeowners who would like a firefighter to conduct a home evaluation regarding defensible space, which includes practical suggestions for making your home more fire safe, should call Carrie Joyce at (949) 497-0700.

Island Party seeks sponsors

No Square Theatre’s third annual Laguna Resource and Relief Center Island Party is planned for 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Laguna Beach Woman’s Club, 286 St. Ann’s Drive.

Organizers are looking for sponsors and have packages ranging from $200-$1,000. Those interested should contact Sande St. James at (949) 494-1018.

The event features live entertainment, tropical drinks, and a sampling of past “Lagunatics” shows. Proceeds go to benefit the Relief and Resource Center, which helps all residents in need. Tickets are $50 in advance, or $60 at the door. For tickets, call (949) 633-9429.
