SHELBY BUCKLEY
Corona del Mar
The standout distance runner will compete at UCLA. A state individual champion in cross country as a freshman in 2004 (CIF Division III) at Rosary, she also excelled in track and field. Since Buckley came to CdM as a sophomore, the Sea Kings have won three straight CIF Southern Section Division III cross country titles and three straight Division III track and field titles; also a CIF Southern Section Division III champ in the 800 meters and 1,600.
MADELINE (MIMI) BURY
Newport Harbor
As team captain of the girls’ water polo team, the Sunset League Player of the Year led the Sailors to the CIF Southern Section Division I crown. She also earned first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I honors and will continue to play at Stanford. She was named Daily Pilot Dream Team Co-Player of the Year. She was also part of Harbor’s CIF title team in 2006.
KYLE CALDWELL
Newport Harbor
Known as one of the top high school boys’ volleyball players in the nation, the standout will continue competing at UCLA. He was first-team All-Sunset League and third-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I as a junior. Also excelled in basketball, breaking school record for most points in a game (47) and in a season (592). As setter for the volleyball team, his versatility has helped top-seeded Harbor in the CIF Division I playoffs.
JEFF CARLSON
Corona del Mar
One of the top hitters for the Sea Kings, Carlson will continue to compete for USC. He helped the Sea Kings to the CIF Southern Section Division II championship in 2007. This year, he helped lead the Sea Kings to the title in the Orange County Championships, and was named to the all-tournament team. A 4.0, grade-point average student, he was part of CdM’s CIF Academic Team Champion award.
MYLES CHRISTIAN
Newport Harbor
As a captain, he helped lead the boys’ water polo team to its first CIF Southern Section Division I title since 2000. A first-team All-Sunset League performer, he’ll continue to compete at UC Santa Barbara. As goalie, he compiled 255 saves during his senior year, averaging over eight per game. As a swimmer he was part of the Sailors’ Sunset League title and was on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that broke the school record.
CHRISTOFER COTTRELL
Corona del Mar
Named the 2007 Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player in boys’ water polo, he also earned second-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I honors. A 4.5, grade-point average student, he’ll attend Princeton University in the fall. As a senior, Cottrell, a driver, scored 70 goals and recorded 30 steals.
ALLISON DAMON
Corona del Mar
As standout distance runner, she was key for the Sea Kings in winning three championships in CIF Southern Section Division III for cross country and three titles in track and field. A 4.3, grade-point average student, she will attend Duke University, where she will also compete. This year, she dealt with mononucleosis, yet qualified for the CIF Southern Section Division III finals in the 1,600 meters.
THOMAS DIALYNAS
Corona del Mar
As Corona del Mar’s top runner in cross country, he helped the Sea Kings to a sixth-place finish in CIF Southern Section Division III, as they advanced to the CIF finals in Fresno. He finished second place in the Pacific Coast League and led the Sea Kings to the league title. This spring, he won the Pacific Coast League title in the 3,200 meters and reached the CIF Southern Section Division III finals.
SOPHIA DITTY
Newport Harbor
As Newport Harbor’s top runner, she led the girls’ cross country team to the CIF State championship in Division II. She was also part of the teams that finished runner-up at the state finals in 2006 and 2005. She will continue as a distance runner at the University of San Francisco in the fall. In track and field this spring, she qualified for the CIF Southern Section Masters meet in the 3,200 meters.
AUSTIN (GUS) ELLIS
Corona del Mar
One of the top hitters for the boys’ volleyball team, the 4.0 grade-point average student will continue to play for Stanford next year. He helped the Sea Kings to CIF Southern Section Division II titles in 2005 and 2007. Last year, he was named to the Daily Pilot Dream Team and earned first-team All-CIF Division II honors. He also came away with first-team All-Pacific Coast League honors as a junior.
JOSHUA GEORGE
Newport Harbor
As a wrestler in the 140-pound division, George earned eighth place at the CIF state finals in Bakersfield. He finished 49-8 and went 5-3 at the state finals, where he became only the third Newport Harbor wrestler to place in school history. Also a senior, he won the Andrew Pena Tournament, Eagle Invitational and Estancia New Year Classic. He was also the Sunset League champion.
LEXI HENSON
Corona del Mar
As a senior captain for the Corona del Mar girls’ soccer team, she earned first-team All-Pacific Coast League honors. She scored five goals and had two assists. She helped lead the Sea Kings to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs. A four-year varsity starter, she was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. She will attend Arizona State University in the fall.
ALEX HOOVER
Corona del Mar
A standout for the Corona del Mar girls’ lacrosse team, she contributed to the Sea Kings as one of their top scorers. As an actress who starred in “The Bold and the Beautiful” and an episode of “ER” with her twin sister, she was featured in Sports Illustrated. She was also named Daily Pilot High School Athlete of the Week with her sister as a junior and helped CdM in its inaugural season of lacrosse.
CLINTON JORTH
Newport Harbor
The Daily Pilot Dream Team Player of the Year led the Newport Harbor boys’ water polo team to the CIF Southern Section Division I title. A four-year varsity starter, he will continue to compete at UCLA. He had 81 goals and 29 steals. He earned first-tam all-league honors his final three seasons and helped the Sailors to a Sunset League title in swimming his senior year.

Corona del Mar
A 4.0 grade-point average student, he will attend Brown University, where he will play basketball. As a junior he led the Sea Kings to the CIF Southern Section Division III-A championship and was named Player of the Year. He was also the Player of the Year of the Newport-Mesa area and shared the honor his senior year. A four-year varsity starter, he was MVP of the Pacific Coast League.
OSCAR FABIAN MATTHEWS
Corona del Mar
A standout tennis player, Matthews will continue to compete at UC Irvine. He won two CIF titles in doubles in 2006 and 2007. He captured the Pacific Coast League individual title in singles his senior year. He’s been the top singles player for CdM in each of his four years.
Colin Hugh McKibbin
Newport Harbor
He helped the Newport Harbor boys’ water polo team to the CIF Southern Section Division I title. He earned first-team honors as an All-CIF and All-Sunset League performer. Named as Most Improved for Newport Harbor, he also served the community, coaching youth water polo.
MEGAN MUNCE
Newport Harbor
The standout volleyball player will compete for Texas Christian University, where she plans to major in business marketing. A four-year varsity player, she earned first-team All-Sunset League honors as a senior. Named the Daily Pilot Dream Team Player of the Year after leading the Sailors to their second straight Sunset League championship.
REX NELSON
Newport Harbor
The standout distance runner will compete for UC Irvine. A two-time Sunset League champion in the 1,600 meters, he also won the league title in the 3,200. In cross country, he led Harbor to the state meet for the first time since 1998, as the Sailors finished seventh in Division II. One of four runners in school history to go under 15 minutes in a three-mile race.

Newport Harbor
The standout boys’ water polo player, who racked up several individual awards, will compete for USC. He received the Gray Lunde Award and Coach’s Award at Newport Harbor and also earned first-team honors for All-Sunset League and All-CIF, as he helped the Sailors to the Southern Section Division I title. He was second-team for league and CIF as a junior.
TUCKER PELEUSES
Newport Harbor
A standout for the boys’ volleyball team, Peleuses will compete for USC next year. He earned second-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I and All-Sunset League honors as a junior and helped the Sailors to the CIF Division I championship match his senior year. He was named to the Daily Pilot Dream Team as a junior.
ALLISON PEOTTER
Corona del Mar
A 4.1 grade-point average student, she will attend George Washington University in the fall. As a standout girls’ water polo player, she was named to the Daily Pilot Dream Team. A second-team All-Southern Section Division I selection, and a first-team All-Pacific Coast League performer, Peotter had 40 goals and 37 assists for the Sea Kings in her senior year.
Ashley Pries
Corona del Mar
A 4.3 grade-point average student, she will attend UCLA in the fall. As a first-team All-Pacific Coast League performer, she helped the Sea Kings to the PCL championship with an undefeated league record. She was also named the league’s Libero of the Year after recording 491 digs, and helped CdM reach the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA semifinals.

Corona del Mar
The standout football player, who starred at linebacker, will compete for the University of Pennsylvania. A three-time selection on the Daily Pilot Dream Team, he was named Defensive Player of the Year for the Pacific Coast League in his senior year. He also excelled in basketball, earning second-team All-Pacific Coast League honors and was named to the Daily Pilot Dream Team.
KEVIN RASK
Corona del Mar
A two-time Daily Pilot Dream Team performer, he stood out on defense for the Sea Kings football team. In his senior year, he finished the season with 100 tackles, including 62 solos, which was second on the team. He will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall. As a senior, he was one of three Sea Kings named first-team All-Pacific Coast League in football.
JESSICA ROBINSON
Newport Harbor
Robinson, who helped the Newport Harbor girls’ water polo team to a CIF Southern Section Division I title, will compete for UC Berkeley, where she plans to major in business. A second-team All-CIF performer she was named to the Daily Pilot Dream Team in her senior year. She was a first-team All-Sunset League selection as a senior.
NATE TALBOTT
Newport Harbor
A standout in football and track and field, Talbott will be competing in the discus at the University of Colorado next year. He was the recipient of the John Gust Athletic Scholarship DESIRE Award. He received honorable mention recognition for the Sunset League in football in his senior year. Finished second in the discus in the Sunset League.
NICK TAYLOR
Corona del Mar
A 4.0 grade-point average student, Taylor will attend Colgate University in the fall. He competed in varsity for two years and stood out as a lacrosse player, helping the Sea Kings begin their program. He earned first-team All-Pacific Coast League honors in lacrosse, helping CdM to the league title. He also helped the Sea Kings record three shutouts during his senior year.
MORGAN VICKERS
Newport Harbor
As a senior goalie, she helped lead the Newport Harbor High girls’ water polo team to the CIF Southern Section Division I title. A second-team All-CIF performer and a first-team All-Sunset League selection, Vickers will compete at UC Irvine. She helped the Sailors to two Sunset League titles, earning second-team all-league honors her junior year.
ALESHA YOUNG
Newport Harbor
A standout in volleyball, Young will compete at Loyola Marymount in the fall. She was named Co-Most Valuable Player of the Sunset League after leading the Sailors to a share of the league title. She was also a two-time Daily Pilot Dream Team selection. Young, who was also a first-team all-league selection her junior year, compiled 839 assists and 219 digs as a senior.
