The Newport Harbor High boys’ volleyball team has won 18 matches in a row.
The top-seeded Sailors will try to improve that streak to 19 when they play at Tesoro in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs tonight at 7.
Tesoro upset Harvard-Westlake with a five-game win Friday. Newport Harbor (28-3) swept JSerra in the first round. The winner will face the winner of San Clemente-at Wilson match in Friday’s quarterfinals.
In CIF Division II, Corona del Mar continues its quest to defend its championship tonight at 7 at home against Santa Ana. The Sea Kings (24-7), who swept Pacific of Oxnard Friday, hope to have starting setter Connor Bannan back from illness.
Sage Hill returns from its long break tonight at 7 in the second round of the CIF Division V playoffs. The Lightning (19-9), who had a first-round bye, will play host to Bellarmine-Jefferson (17-6) of Burbank.
Sage Hill reached the semifinals last year and did not lose any starters from last season.
