“Five for 5 on 5” Newport-Mesa league
The Andersen 1 team won the girls’ league title on May 2, defeating Andersen 2, 39-17, at Lincoln Elementary in Corona del Mar.
The “Five for 5 on 5,” in its first year, is a league for fifth and sixth-graders, featuring local girls’ teams from Andersen Elementary, Eastbluff Elementary, Lincoln and a combination team from Newport Coast Elementary and Harbor View.
Andersen’s Jamie Smith scored 21 points in the championship game and was named the league’s Most Valuable
Player. Andersen 1, coached by Dave Scott, finished the year 10-0.
Zoe Condon of Lincoln earned Most Improved Player honors, while Alexa Pridemore of Newport Coast-Harbor View earned the sportsmanship award.
Members of the winning Andersen 1 team also included Eliza Clark, Molly Keasey, Kacie Kline, Makena Look, Katherine Noe, Sabrina Roy, Elizabeth Russell and Katie Scott.
