Costa Mesa firefighters were called to two carports at 770 Shalimar Drive on Thursday night to battle flames a few kids had accidentally started while playing with matches inside an unattached camper trailer between two carports, fire officials said.
The blaze engulfed the camper and spread to the carports, Battalion Chief Bill Kershaw said. Officials estimate the damage at about $11,000. No one was injured, but four cars were damaged from the fire. A wooden fence and a sofa outside also caught on fire, officials said.
The boys who played with fire, ages 5, 7 and 8, will likely be required to take a fire safety class, Kershaw said.
