Costa Mesa, Calvary collide for league title
If Costa Mesa High plans to win its first baseball league crown since 1978, Coach Jim Kiefer expects everyone to contribute in the regular-season finale.
The Mustangs play Calvary Chapel for the Orange Coast League championship today at Vanguard University at 3:15 p.m.
“Our team’s strength throughout the year was we had contributions from everybody. We are not a team that’s carried by two to three players,” Kiefer said after Calvary Chapel beat his Mustangs, 9-6, Monday. “These last couple of games we haven’t had everybody contributing like they have throughout the season, so that’s where we come up a little short.”
Costa Mesa (15-11, 8-3 in league) has dropped back-to-back league games. Calvary Chapel (15-12, 8-3) has won three straight and is looking to win its third straight league crown.
