NEWPORT BEACH — Orange Coast College won the varsity eight race by seven seconds over UCLA Saturday on Newport Harbor.

OCC finished in 5 minutes, 55.5 seconds. UC Irvine finished fifth. OCC also won the novice eight race in 5:57.28.

BUENA PARK — Jennifer Olvera, who was two for two with two runs and one RBI, struck out eight and walked one in her one-hitter of five-inning game for the Lions in a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at George Bellis Park.

Stephanie Leisenring went three for four with two runs and two RBIs, while Jennifer Bergh and Kaysie Flask had two hits each for Vanguard (33-19, 8-12 in conference) in the first game.
