May-Treanor helps gets duo past Ross, Boss

ARLINGTON, Texas — Misty May-Treanor, a former Newport Harbor High star, and Kerri Walsh advanced to today’s semifinals of the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals’ Dallas Open Saturday.

The top-seeded duo, bound for the Olympics, defeated fellow Newport Harbor alumna April Ross and her partner, Jen Boss, 15-21, 21-18, 15-13, in the quarterfinals.

On the men’s side, Matt Fuerbringer, the former Estancia High standout, and Casey Jennings, seeded No. 2, defeated the No. 3-seeded team of Anthony Medel and Fred Souza to advance to today’s semifinals.

Costa Mesa resident Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal lost to Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers in a quarterfinal, 14-21, 21-13, 17-15.
