Local to compete at boarding competition
Mike Morrissey of Laguna Beach is one of 49 athletes confirmed to compete at the inaugural Ultimate Boarder Competition beginning Sunday.
The weeklong, triathlon-type of competition includes snowboarding, surfing and skating at various California venues.
The event begins Sunday with the snowboarding competition at Squaw Valley, moves to “C” Street in Ventura on Monday for the surf competition that will take place Wednesday and ends at the Ventura County Fairgrounds for Saturday’s skateboard competition and awards presentation with a concert to follow.
The competition if open to both amateur and professional athletes who will contend for a first-place prize of $30,000.
The age range of the competitors runs from 13 (Sky Siljeg of Bothell, Wash.) and 49 (Tom “Wally” Inouye of Hood River, Ore.).
