NEWPORT BEACH — Seniors Kyle Caldwell and Tucker Peleuses led the Sailors to a 25-20, 25-23, 25-15 Sunset League win Wednesday night.

Peleuses led the Sailors, ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, with 14 kills and two blocks. Caldwell added 34 assists, eight kills, five digs, five aces, and two blocks.

Senior Max Volz had eight kills and two blocks, and Mark Leibermann had six kills, three aces and two blocks for the winners.

The Sailors (15-3, 3-0 in league) play host to No. 5-ranked Los Alamitos Friday at 5:45 p.m.

NEWPORT BEACH — Senior RJ D’Cruz pitched well in his first start back after bruising his non-throwing left shoulder last week, going three innings in the Sailors’ Sunset League game Wednesday.

D’Cruz (2-3) struck out four and allowed two hits and three unearned runs.

Junior Alex Rios pinch-hit and singled in junior Arturo Vasquez in the bottom of the seventh inning to allow the Sailors to avert the shutout.

Newport Harbor managed just four hits and had two errors.

Newport Harbor (6-8-1, 2-5 in league) plays at Edison Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

COSTA MESA — The Mustangs finished in 10th in the Beach Pit Classic after falling to Northwood Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Mikey Molina was two for five with two runs batted in while junior Nick Pederson went two for four with two RBIs to pace the Mustangs’ 10-hit attack against two Timberwolves pitchers.

Costa Mesa (11-8, 4-0 in the Orange Coast League) will resume league action Tuesday when it plays host to Laguna Beach at 3:15 p.m.
