The Laguna Beach boys’ tennis team had little trouble in the second match of the young Orange Coast League schedule as the Breakers blanked visiting Costa Mesa, 18-0.

It was Laguna’s first match in nearly two weeks.

“Everyone played very strong,” Laguna Coach Jonee Earl said.

Beginning in singles play, freshman Jake Michaels, playing at No. 1, won his three sets by identical 6-0 scores.

Freshman and No. 2 Benito Romeo won two sets by the same 6-0 score before sub Alex Gromet, as sophomore, won the third set 6-0 and junior and No. 3 singles Rex Miller won his first two by the same 6-0 score before ending play with a 6-2 victory.

It was just as one-sided in doubles play for the Breakers. The No. 1 team of senior Ben Biscarret and senior Jared Berkson won the first set 6-0 and the third 6-2 but senior Sean Ochwat subbed in for Berkson and teamed with Biscarret to win the second set 6-1.

The No. 2 team of junior Noah Michelon and senior Graham Unterberger won 6-0, 6-0 before senior Bryant Schulman and junior John Palfreyman subbed for the duo and won the third set, 6-1. The third team of sophomores Mikey Rubel and Paul Salomon won, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1.

Laguna is now 2-0 in league play. The Breakers began their league schedule on March 20 with a 16-2 win at Calvary Chapel.
