Melvin J. Silverstein, an internationally renowned breast care expert and leader in USC’s cancer program, has been appointed medical director of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian’s Breast Care Center.

Silverstein is recognized as a pioneer in oncoplastic breast surgery, a method that combines cancer removal with reshaping of the breast. In recent years, he has served as a professor of surgery in USC’s Keck School of Medicine and medical director of the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

At Hoag, he will oversee clinical operations of the Breast Care Center as well as the development of physical education and fellowship programs to train other surgeons.
