Put ‘Surf City’ on Rose Parade float

I’m older than 70 and have bodysurfed Huntington Beach in my youth starting just after World War II.

We referred to it as Huntington (not Surf City) and considered it an interesting place to surf because of the then double break ... outside and inside due to the topography of the underwater sand (since gone).

Our City Council has and continues to make very silly moves to promulgate the “Surf City” image, spending close to $350,000 on Surf City “signs.”

And at the same time they approve the set aside of $200,000 for a Rose Parade float.

Of course, they said, they weren’t planning “to spend all that money” on the float.

Dear Cupidic City Council: One float would be seen by tens of million people on TV and hundreds of thousands of people along the Rose Parade route. Put SURF CITY in big letters on both sides of the float, and you would get your money’s worth of press for “Surf City.”

This would be far more effective than pre-rusted signs!
