Newport Harbor to hold its ninth surfing event

The ninth annual Newport Surf Classic is approaching.
This year’s fundraiser for the Newport Harbor High surf team will be held March 30-31 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 56th Street in Newport Beach.
One hundred surfers turned out for last year’s event for the open division contests: men’s and women’s shortboard, longboard, and bodyboard.
Surfers can compete as groms (grade 8 and under), or in the 9-12 division, or in a masters division for surfers over 40.
Trophies and prizes from the sponsors and local donors will be awarded to the top six finishers in each division.
