Boys’ tennis scores win

Strong play in doubles action Tuesday allowed the Laguna Beach boys’ tennis team to pick up a nonleague victory at the expense of Capistrano Valley Christian.
Although the visiting Eagles dominated singles play, the Breakers took over the match by claiming eight of nine points available in doubles play to score an 11-7 win.
Laguna received sweeps in doubles from the No. 2 team of Noah Michelon and Mikey Rubel won by scores of 7-5, 6-4, 6-1 and the No. 3 team of Graham Unterberger and Paul Salomon who posted wins of 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
The Breakers’ top doubles team of Ben Biscarrat and Jared Berkson won two of three sets.
In singles play, No. 1 Jake Michaels won two of three, and No. 2 Benito Romeo scored the other Laguna point.
In a previous nonleague match, Laguna fell 16-2 at Woodbridge. Biscarrat/Berkson and Michelon/Rex Miller picked up points in doubles play.
The Breakers opened Orange Coast League play Thursday but the score wasn’t available at press time.
Laguna resumes league play on April 1 with a 3:15 p.m. home match against Costa Mesa.
In boys’ golf
Laguna had a four-match win streak snapped Tuesday by host Estancia, which posted a 207-222 league victory over the Breakers in a battle of league front-runners at Mesa Verde Golf Course.
The loss dropped the Breakers to 3-1 in league play while Estancia improved to 4-0.
In a previous league match, Laguna was a 196-212 winner over host Ocean View at Ben Browns Golf Course on March 13.
The Breakers also have defeated Costa Mesa (196-250) and Orange (194-231) in league action.
Laguna next will take on host Costa Mesa at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in a league match at Mesa Linda Golf Course.
In other upcoming Laguna prep sports action, the track and field teams host University at 3 p.m. Wednesday in a nonleague meet.
