8 selected for all-league hoops team

Five players from Edison and three from Marina have made the 2008 All-Sunset League Boys’ Basketball Team.

The all-league team was selected by the six league coaches at a recent meeting.

Kyle Boswell and Eric Ferraro of Edison, and Garrett James and Brendan Holmes of Marina all made first team.

Edison’s Carl Eberts was a second-team pick. Nick Capriccio and Garrett Yamasaki, both also from Edison, and Marina’s Dion Douglas were honorable mention.

Boswell finished the 2007-08 season with 636 points, a single-season record at Edison. Ferraro became the school’s career assists leader with 375.

Holmes made 149 three-point baskets to set a Marina single-season record, and that total ranks him second all-time on the state’s all-time single-season list for three-point shots made. The sophomore also set a Marina record in making 13 three-point shots in a single game. He averaged 21.4 points a game.

James made 110 three-point shots this year, putting him fourth on Marina’s single-season list. The junior averaged 22.5 points per game.

Edison and Esperanza tied for third-place in the Sunset standings. During the season, the Chargers defeated league champion Los Alamitos and runner-up Newport Harbor.
