COSTA MESA — Senior starting pitcher Jennifer Olvera and her sister, freshman reliever pitcher Patricia Olvea, each won a game during the Lions’ (28-8) nonconference doubleheader Wednesday.
In Game 1, Jennifer threw a four-hit shutout, striking out eight to improve to 13-0.
In Game 2, Patricia pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief, striking out one to improve to 5-0.
Vanguard plays host to Columbia March 26.

COSTA MESA — The Lions scored twice in the bottom of the eighth, winning the rubber match of the three-game series Wednesday at Vanguard.
Richard Jessup earned the win in relief for Vanguard (13-15), giving up a single hit in 4 2/3 innings. Kyle Bondurant, Daniel Black, Jason Machado, Zachary Falk and Keegan Freeman all had two hits for Vanguard, with Bondurant, Machado and Falk adding doubles.
The Lions also split a doubleheader Tuesday, with Illinois Institute of Technology taking a 20-10 win in Game 1 but the Lions rebounding for a 3-2 win in Game 2.

Hana Jurcovicova, Jelena Jovic, Damia Donkervoort, Anna Valingsten and Olivia Amstad also won in singles for Vanguard (10-2).
