Costa Mesa, Estancia will take league softball forfeits

The Costa Mesa High and Estancia softball teams will take wins via forfeits for their scheduled Orange Coast League games against Laguna Beach, Estancia Coach Judd Fryslie said.
Laguna Beach does not have a varsity softball team this year. Costa Mesa and Estancia were hoping to use the scheduled dates with the Breakers to play another game against the three remaining league teams, also including Calvary Chapel.
However, Fryslie said, the CIF Southern Section ruled last week that the remaining teams would have to take the forfeits or the league wouldn’t be considered a four-team league. That designation is important, since it means two guaranteed spots into the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs.
Each team will still play the other teams the usual three times in league. The cross-town rivals begin Orange Coast League play against each other, April 4 at Costa Mesa.
