Former CdM volleyball star Lewis to be honored
Corona del Mar High will honor former Sea Kings volleyball standout Brian Lewis today with a ceremony to retire his jersey.
Lewis, who played varsity on the 1985 and 1986 CdM teams, helped lead the Sea Kings to a CIF section championship in 1985, then played on the national junior college championship teams at Orange Coast in 1987 and 1988. He was the state’s player of the year both years.
Lewis, a Daily Pilot Sports Hall of Famer, ended a 16-year career with the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals in 2005, finishing the 2004 season as the No. 1 player on the tour.
Lewis led the tour in aces five times and won 15 career professional titles and more than $1.5 million in prize money.
CdM officials will hang Lewis’ jersey at approximately 4:45 p.m., before the start of the boys’ varsity match between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach.
