WOMEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 4, Penn 3

IRVINE — Becky Bernhard, Jessica Broadfoot, Brooke Bartlett and Heidi Kaloi won in singles for the Anteaters in their nonconference match Monday.

In No. 1 singles, Bernhard, a senior, defeated the Quakers’ Edaterina Kosminskaya, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Kaloi, a junior, beat Alexa Ely, 7-5, 7-6 in No. 6 singles to clinch the overall team win.

The Anteaters (7-6) will play at Cal State Fullerton Thursday at 2:00 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Sophomore Evelyn Wallace won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, to highlight the undefeated Pirates’ nonconference match Monday.

Freshmen Brittany Bass, Brittnie Furuvald and Kalin Eshelman also won in singles for OCC (9-0), which swept in doubles.

The Pirates will play at Saddleback today at 2 p.m.

COSTA MESA — The No. 4-ranked Lions did not drop more than two games in each of their sets of their nonconference sweep Monday.

Senior Olivia Amstad won at No. 6 singles without dropping a game for Vanguard (7-1).

COSTA MESA — Junior Greg Chevalier, as well as sophomores Florian Lemke, Dominic Stockler and Garrett Gillon swept in singles without dropping a game in the Lions’ nonconference match Monday.

The doubles team of Chevalier and Lemke also had a shuout in No. 2 doubles for Vanguard (4-4).

MEN’S GOLF

Callaway Golf Invitational

RANCHO SANTA FE — UC Irvine is in 10th place after the first two rounds Monday at The Farms Golf Club.

Wichita State leads the 15-team field with a 36-hole score of six-under 570. San Diego is second at 576 and Saint Mary’s is third at 579. UCI shot 606 Monday.

Wichita State’s Ryan Spears and Dustin Garza, along with Joshua Kelley of Saint Mary’s, are the individual leaders at four-under 140.

UCI’s John Chin (76-75) and Derek Uyesaka (78-73) are tied for 34th at 151, Sean Shahi is 41st at 152 (78-74), Kenny Kim is 43rd at 153 (77-76) and Bryan Harris is in 74th place at 161 (77-85).

The final 18 holes are scheduled for today.

BASEBALL

Game cancelled

Western Illinois has opted not to honor its commitment to play its baseball game at UC Irvine Wednesday night.

The game, which had been scheduled for 6 p.m. at Anteater Ballpark, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. UC Irvine plays at USC tonight at 7, prior playing at home against Hawaii in a three-game series this weekend.

Game times at Anteater Ballpark are 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
