Anesthesiology department chair UCI search put to rest

UCI has found its new chair for the Department of Anesthesiology in Dr. Zeev Kain, an anesthesiologist from Yale University, UCI officials announced Wednesday.

Kain’s selection comes after a national search.

Besides acting as professor and chairman for the department, he will also be chief anesthesiologist for UCI Medical Center and associate dean for clinical research in the university’s School of Medicine.

Kain leads 40 faculty members, 24 resident physicians and 15 nurses.

Collectively they cover the Medical Center’s surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, radiology, emergency and trauma clinics, among others.

Kain gained prominence with his research into how children are treated before, during and after surgeries. Now fewer children find themselves alone and stressed when they have to go into the operating room, officials said.
