College students read to elementary kids
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” “” Dr. Seuss
Students from Laguna College of Art & Design recently joined with students and faculty at El Morro Elementary School to participate in Read Across America.
The college students attended a breakfast reception and read books to the school’s children.
The National Education Association’s Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on Dr. Seuss’ birthday. It is the nation’s largest reading celebration, with millions of participants across the country.
This year, the Fundamentals of Graphic Design curriculum at the college included a Read Across America poster and bookmark project undertaken by the class in conjunction with the annual celebration.
Read Across America coordinator and third-grade teacher Mary Blanton conceived the idea with her husband, Everett, with the goal of providing a beneficial experience for both institutions.
