Soccer teams headed for road
Three Newport-Mesa area girls’ soccer teams and the Estancia boys’ soccer squad lost coin flips and will be playing on the road for their CIF Southern Section playoff games.
Estancia (11-6-3) will play at No. 2-seeded Santa Ana, Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Eagles defeated Norwalk on Rony Argueta’s goal scored in the 79th minute Friday.
Corona del Mar (13-7-3) will play its second straight road game, as the Sea Kings will play at Moorpark in CIF Division II Wednesday. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m., but CdM Coach Bryan Middleton said it might begin at 6 p.m., as requested by Moorpark. He said he will discuss the late start with his team today.
In Division III, Costa Mesa (13-7-3) will play at Riverside Poly Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Mustangs lost to Riverside Poly earlier this season, 1-0, in the Ocean View tournament.
In Division VI, Sage Hill (13-8-3) will play on the road Wednesday against Animo Leadership of Inglewood. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m., but the site has not been announced. Animo played its first-round home match at Serra High in Gardena.
Estancia, in Division III girls, is the only local team playing a home game Wednesday.
The Eagles (13-8-3) will take on top-seeded Mayfair (23-2-3).
