Newport Coast gym expands for 4th anniversary
Living Fitness, a training facility at the Newport Coast Shopping Center, celebrated its fourth anniversary this year with a massive expansion that includes new equipment, a widening of its workout area and a number of added personal trainers.
The fitness center added a pneumatic strength line of equipment from Keiser, the Power Plate Pro 5 Airdaptive training system — which features a 500-pound vibrating platform for resistance and flexibility training — high-incline treadmills and other machines from Freemotion.
Living Fitness, which resides in the shopping center at 21139 Newport Coast Drive, is open 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Women’s athletic center boosts training staff
Body Design, a women’s athletic and wellness center in Fashion Island, has hired three new trainers — Joy Dugan, Shoshanna Cairns and Leah Rakeman — to its staff.
Dugan, who teaches Pilates and weight training, earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Cairns is a certified instructor in Tae Bo, a style that mixes martial arts with aerobic exercise, and teaches kickboxing at Body Design.
Rakeman, a Pilates instructor, worked as a professional dancer for Holland America Cruise Line before moving into fitness training.
Body Design is open 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to noon Saturday.
