RESTAURANT ROUNDUP:
Tommy Bahama in Newport Beach will close Monday to renovate its look and menu. Reopening at lunch March 7, the restaurant will change its name to The Island — Coastal Cuisine by Tommy Bahama to better reflect its location on the California’s Gold Coast.
Many menu favorites will remain, but the restaurant will use local, seasonal ingredients like halibut and Pacific swordfish, and heirloom tomatoes grown in Oxnard.
New dishes will include a lobster grilled cheese sandwich, sliders featuring scallops with chipotle aioli on one and filet mignon on another, and homemade chocolate crunch bars with vanilla gelato. But not to worry, these experimental new offerings won’t change the overall price range of $10-$39.
The building itself will get a kick in the pants, too, with the patio moving to a place where diners can people watch.
