UCI to hang championship banner, then face Trojans
The UC Irvine men’s volleyball team will have its banner-hanging ceremony tonight to commemorate the team for winning the 2007 NCAA championship.
The program went 29-5 to claim UCI’s first NCAA championship title last season. But this year’s UCI team has already outpaced that 2007 squad in terms of season losses.
The Anteaters (7-7, 5-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) will play USC tonight at 7 at the Bren Events Center. The banner ceremony will be held before the start of the match.
California State Senator Tom Harman will present the 2007 defending national champions with a resolution. Irvine Mayor Beth Krom will address the team.
The No. 8 Anteaters won at USC Jan. 25 in four games.
They opened the season with a three-game loss to the University of Alberta, and later experienced a three-match slide against Stanford, Long Beach State, and UC San Diego.
The Anteaters, who have won three of their last four matches, rebounded with a four-game win Jan. 23 at Pepperdine.
