IRVINE — Anteaters freshman Ryan Mayer, playing in his first career dual match, clinched the upset win over the No. 27-ranked Broncos when he won, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 6 singles in the nonconference match Thursday.
Victor Lamm, Khunpol Issara and Stephen Stege also won in singles for UCI (1-1).

NORWALK — Brittany Bass scored a 6-7, (3), 7-6 (5), 11-9 victory at No. 1 singles to highlight the Pirates season-opening nonconference win Thursday.
Brittany Furuvald, Evelyn Wallace, Kalin Eshelman, Ashton Morris, Emily Garcia, Jasmine Mathieson and Lauren Iaria also won, as OCC swept in singles.

IRVINE — Cal Poly went on a 47-21 run in the final 20 minutes of Thursday’s Big West Conference game, and held the Anteaters scoreless for almost eight minutes.
Rebecca Maessen led UCI (6-15, 2-7 in conference) with 16 points, while Annie Mai had 14 and Kelly Cochran 13.Stephanie Duda added nine points and nine rebounds, while Miranda Forry had nine points and six rebounds.
