Seahawks are still on top
Ocean View moved a step closer to achieving a perfect Golden West League finish after the Seahawks disposed of visiting Westminster Monday 72-50, in boys’ basketball action.
The defending league champion Seahawks used a solid start and strong finish to improve to 9-0 in league while notching their 20th victory of the season.
Ocean View, now 20-6 overall, withstood a barrage of three-point shots by Westminster in the game — the Lions hit 11 overall — to complete a league sweep of their rivals from just down the road.
“It was kind of a dangerous game for us because we were going up against a Westminster team that was playing for its playoff life,†Ocean View co-head coach Jimmy Harris said.
Anthony Pancoast scored 19 points and led three Seahawks in double figures.
? Edison girls clinch share of Sunset title
The Edison High girls’ basketball team clinched a share of the 2008 Sunset League title with a 60-34 victory against Esperanza on Tuesday.
The teams were tied for the league lead heading into Tuesday’s big showdown, but Edison improved to 19-3 overall and 8-1 in league with the win.
Junior point guard Priscila Cergol scored 21 points, 15 coming during the first half, which helped Edison take control.

In other boys’ action
Huntington Beach positioned itself for a shot at the Sea View League championship by defeating both Northwood and Woodbridge.
The Oilers first disposed of Northwood by handing the Timberwolves a 67-43 setback. Nick Becker led all scorers with 20 points.
On Friday, Huntington took care of visiting Woodbridge, 74-64. The two wins moved Huntington to 21-3 overall and 7-1 in league, just one-game behind El Toro (8-0).
Edison won its first game at Los Alamitos in six years, winning 72-62 and in the process handed the Griffins their first loss in Sunset League play.
Kyle Boswell topped all scorers with 30 points. Marina notched its first Sunset League victory Friday and did so at the expense of second-place Esperanza.
The Vikings connected on 21 three-point baskets — including 12 in the second half — to rally for a 90-88 victory.

In girls’ hoops action
Edison routed both host Newport Harbor (59-23) and visiting Los Alamitos (61-28).
Marina came out on the short end of a 48-42 Sunset League game at Esperanza that went to the wire. Previously, Marina was a 56-36 winner over visiting Los Alamitos. Alyssa Starkey scored 12 points, and Rita Sitivi had 11 points for the Vikings. Huntington held visiting Woodbridge to just 16 first-half points and went on to defeat the Warriros, 37-33, in Sea View League play.
