COSTA MESA — Estancia should have been riding a crest of confidence after defeating archrival Costa Mesa Wednesday night, but Calvary Chapel quickly brought it back down to earth Friday, in an Orange Coast League game.
Estancia (10-12, 2-3 in league), which succumbed to Calvary Chapel for the second time this season, was led by senior Mark Allred with 14 points. Junior Tim Neumann added 12.

COSTA MESA — The visiting Breakers rallied late, handing the stunned Mustangs their first Orange Coast League loss Friday night at Costa Mesa High.
Laguna Beach (8-10, 4-1 in league), now tied for the league lead, outscored Costa Mesa (14-7, 4-1) by a 20-7 margin in the fourth quarter before Michelle Figueroa’s three-pointer at the buzzer made the final margin closer.
“I can’t remember the last time we gave up 20 points in a quarter,” Costa Mesa Coach Jim Weeks said. “Laguna Beach executed really well. [The Breakers] converted big-time.”
Figueroa led Costa Mesa with 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Senior center Jasmine Werdel had 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for the Mustangs. Emily LaRose scored a game-high 25 for the Breakers.
Costa Mesa, ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA coaches’ poll, visits Dana Hills tonight at 7 for a nonleague game.

NEWPORT COAST — Sophomore Molly Vorwerck broke a 1-1 tie in the 65th minute by scoring for the host Lightning in the Academy League game Friday.
Sophomore Isa-Marie Taskinen assisted both Sage Hill goals, the first of which by senior Kellee Kim in the 37th minute, erased the visitors’ 1-0 lead.
Sophomore goalie Sarah MacLeod had five saves for the winners, who improved to 9-7-2, 6-0-1 in league.

Santa Margarita 6
NEWPORT BEACH — Sophomore Kate Klippert scored three goals, leading 10 different players who scored for the Sailors in the nonleague game at Newport Harbor High on Friday.
Mimi Bury, Nicolina McCall and Kaleigh Gilchrist all scored twice for the Sailors (17-3), ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll.
Harbor senior goalie Morgan Vickers had six saves. Santa Margarita is ranked No. 6.
