Dana Hills names Melbon to guide football program
Brent Melbon, an assistant coach last season at Orange Coast College, has been named head football coach at Dana Hills High, he said Thursday.
Melbon, who also teaches at Dana Hills, had applied for the Corona del Mar High football coaching vacancy that has yet to be filled.
Melbon, who coached the secondary for Orange Coast in 2007, was the offensive coordinator at CdM in 2006. He worked previously as an assistant at Dana Hills and Santa Ana Valley high schools and also coached in the Newport-Mesa Junior All-American Football program.
Dana Hills, a member of the South Coast League, finished 1-8-1 in 2007 under then-coach Armando Gonzalez. Gonzalez resigned after four seasons, having compiled a 15-26-1 record at the school.
