Mary Amies

After a long and courageous fight against cancer, Mary Amies peacefully passed away on January 20, 2008. Mary’s life was filled with adventure and spirit. She will be remembered as a heartwarming and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. For more than 40 years, Mary was a recognized and beloved member of the Bayshores community.

Mary was born 80 years ago in York, Pennsylvania to Helen and Norman Reeser. In York, she met and later married her childhood sweetheart, John, in 1950. They traveled to California from York in 1952 by Studebaker along Route 66. The couple first relocated to Santa Monica, then San Pedro, later settling in Bayshores. John and Mary quickly established themselves as avid sailors with Mary learning to sail and crew for John.

Mary’s love was abundant. She cared for many people as a registered nurse. She enjoyed playing bridge, lawn bowling and days at the beach with her children, grandchildren and her many friends. She was also involved with Las Marinaras.
