The Newport-Mesa area has a 50% chance of rain today following a storm that swept over the region last night, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast predicts more showers off and on through Monday, with rain expected to fall this evening. Winds may reach as high as 30 miles per hour by nightfall.
The winter storm hit a large area across Southern California last night, closing a portion of the 5 Freeway north of Los Angeles. Spokesmen for the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach police departments and John Wayne Airport said the rain had caused no problems for them overnight.
