Group to present teacher salary report to board

The Newport-Mesa Superintendent’s Task Force on teachers’ salaries is scheduled to report its annual findings Tuesday. The group will update school board members and faculty on where the district’s teachers’ salaries are compared to the rest of the county’s districts.
A similar report in 2006 sparked a renegotiation of faculty contracts that ultimately led to annual raises for three years for faculty members. The faculty were some of the lowest paid in comparison to neighboring districts. District officials said the group’s findings confirm the contract is accomplishing its goal — moving faculty salaries into the upper-echelons of Orange County’s salaries for educators.
The board will also get some visitors from Down Under when students from Estancia High School’s exchange program stop by for a special presentation. The Australians are only in town for a few weeks, Estancia Principal Phil D’Agostino said.
Newport-Mesa’s CIF Southern Section champions will also be honored at the board meeting. Corona del Mar High School’s girls’ cross country team and Newport Harbor High School’s girls’ cross country team and boys’ water polo teams were crowned champions in their respective divisions this year.
