Is there a more powerful activist group than soccer moms? Or, for that matter, soccer dads?
Well, they’re beginning to mobilize in Newport Beach. The cause? More fields for the 4,000 or so soccer players in the city to do their thing.
Soccer Families 4 Newport Fields wants the city to turn its latest park project — Sunset Ridge Park, at Superior Avenue and West Coast Highway — into an active sports park with more soccer fields.
The group also wants to work with the city and school officials to develop more new soccer fields throughout Newport.
City officials would be well advised to listen, and we’re betting they will.
After all, the best ideas, the ones that grow and flourish and improve our communities, come from grass roots.
This is no exception. If the supply of soccer fields is not meeting the demand, let’s increase the supply, and do so as quickly as possible.
