Sea Kings try to stay hot against nemesis Foothill

The Corona del Mar High girls’ water polo team will go for eight in a row when it tangles with Foothill today at 1 p.m. at Beckman High.

CdM (12-5), ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, has won seven straight games and captured the title at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions on Jan. 12. The Sea Kings, led in scoring by junior Heather Van Hiel (26 goals), beat three straight higher-seeded teams — Laguna Beach, Dos Pueblos and Newport Harbor — on their way to winning the TOC.

But No. 3-ranked Foothill (13-4) has had CdM’s number recently. The Knights, the defending Division I champions, have defeated the Sea Kings four straight times over the last two years.
