Vanguard’s Cook honored as GSAC Player of Week

Vanguard University senior Melissa Cook was named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women’s basketball after averaging 21 points and nine rebounds in the Lions’ conference wins over Westmont (Saturday) and Concordia (Jan. 8).
Cook, a 6-foot senior who plays both guard and both forward positions for Coach Russ Davis, made 12 of 23 field-goal attempts (52.2%), six of 11 three-point tries (54.5%) and 12 of 13 foul shots (92.3%) in the two games combined.
She scored 21 points in an 83-63 triumph at Westmont, making all nine of her free-throw attempts.
Against visiting Concordia, she had 21 points and 10 rebounds to help secure a 90-47 win.
The Lions (10-2, 6-0 in conference) are ranked No. 3 in NAIA Division I, heading into Saturday’s GSAC clash at No. 7-ranked Azusa Pacific (14-2, 6-0).
