NAACP chairman to speak at event for MLK Jr.

Civil rights leader and chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Julian Bond is coming to UCI, university officials said Tuesday.

Bond will be the keynote speaker during a four-day symposium honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Bond will speak at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 in the Crystal Cove Auditorium on campus. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and available in the Cross-Cultural Center. For more information e-mail [email protected] or call (949) 824-4782.

Jan. 21 students are encouraged to volunteer at the O.C. Food Bank. Jan. 22, “Forgotten Genius,” covering the life of chemist Percy Julian, will be shown in the Rosa Parks House in the Arroyo Vista housing complex. Jan. 23, students will rally and march in honor of King through campus.
