UC Irvine def. Pacific

IRVINE — Junior opposite Taylor Wilson had a match-high 18 kills and freshman setter Anthony Spittle had 40 assists to lead the hosts to a 30-27, 30-26, 30-24 verdict in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener Friday at the Bren Events Center.

Freshmen outside hitters Cory Yoder and Jordan DuFault had nine kills apiece and hit .389 and .368, respectively, for the No. 5-ranked winners (3-2, 1-0 in conference).

Pacific fell to 0-3, 0-1.

Orange Coast 83, Cypress 60

COSTA MESA — Sophomore Courtney Ford amassed 23 points and 14 rebounds to pace the host Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference clash Friday.

Brittany Taylor had 14 points and seven rebounds for the winners (18-2, 2-0 in conference), while Katie Kissee added 14.

Cypress fell to 4-13, 0-2.
