SANTA BARBARA — Despite shooting a season-best 58.7% from the field, the Anteaters dropped the Big West Conference road game Thursday.

UC Irvine (4-12, 0-2 in conference) committed 28 turnovers, the second-most this season, and the Gauchos (8-6, 3-0) took an 8-0 lead early.

UCSB scored 16 points off 17 UCI turnovers in the first half.

Anteaters senior forward Haley Tull scored five unanswered points to close the early gap to 8-5, then later capped a 19-4 run with a free throw to tie the game, 32-32, with 1:32 remaining in the first half.

But the Gauchos led, 39-34, at halftime.

UCI senior forward Stephanie Duda’s basket with 5:10 left, tied the game at 55-55, but UCSB battled back again, this time scoring 21 points to the Anteaters’ 12.

Tull scored a season-high 15 points to lead the Anteaters off the bench, while Duda had 14 points and five rebounds.

UCI senior guard Annie Mai had two three-pointers and finished with 12 points, as well as a season-high five assists.

UCI senior Christina Zdenek was three for three from beyond the arc and finished with 11 points.

Kat Suderman had a game-high 16 points, and Sha’Rae Gibbons scored 15 for the Gauchos. UCSB’s Megan had seven rebounds as the Gauchos out-rebounded UCI, 35-28.
