IRVINE — The visiting Pirates made 21 of 35 first-half field-goal attempts (60%) to bolt to a 55-16 lead in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both teams Wednesday.

OCC sophomore Courtney Ford had 21 points, six rebounds and five assists to pace the winners (17-2), ranked No. 4 in Southern California and No. 7 in the state.

Sophomore Katie Kissee had 16 points, including three three-pointers, and added four assists for OCC, which received 13 points off the bench from sophomore Erin Barney (five of eight from the field, including three three-pointers).

Sophomore point guard Rachael Maulit had nine points and eight assists for OCC.

IVC fell to 11-6.

IRVINE — The visiting Pirates were within 32-26 at halftime, but the Lasers made 16 of 25 second-half field-goal attempts (64%) to prevail in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both teams Wednesday.

Sophomore Brian Gee made three of five three-point attempts to lead OCC (4-14), which made just three of 21 from the field after halftime (14.3%).

Blake Wallace was nine of 11 from the field and three of three from the foul line to produce a game-high 21 points for the Lasers (16-2), ranked No. 3 in the state.
