Ice Dogs need 13 goals in close win

In the first of two high-scoring Patrick Division playoff matches played Tuesday at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach, the Ice Dogs outlasted the Bruins, 13-12.

In the match that preceded it, it was the Goonies who pulled out a 10-9 win over the Outlaws.

Ice Dogs 13, Bruins 12

In a match that saw both teams assaulting the goal, it took a score by Matthew Moore with 53 seconds left to give the Ice Dogs the hard-fought win.

The Bruins had tied the score (12-12) with 2:30 to play on a goal by Erich Post Jr.

Moore finished with five goals overall and also picked up a pair of assists. Teammate Luke Loggins also posted five goals and had an assist. Also for the Ice Dogs, Shaun Black, Slater Moore and Brooks Hurst each scored and had an assist and Kandice Ehret had one assist.

Ian Marzolf recorded 20 saves.

Post Jr. led all scorers with six goals and assisted two other scores.

Also breaking into the scoring column for the Bruins were Slater Hoar with three goals and David Mastro, Phillip Berman and Zachary Ganzer each scored once.

Hoar, Mastro and Berman each also had two assists, and Ganzer and goalie Eric Grant each had an assist.

Grant also finished with 27 saves.

Goonies 10, Outlaws 9

The Goonies outscored the Outlaws 2-1 in overtime to come away with the win.

Kyle Impelman and Dylan Miller scored in overtime for the Goonies. Impelman had three goals overall, and Miller and Sean McDaniel each scored twice.

Scoring single goals for the Goonies were Garrett Smith, Garrett Blackwell and Jacob Sabraw. McDaniel also had two assists and Blackwell, Sabraw, Blake Miller and Alvin Do each had an assist.

Mark Miller registered 20 saves.

Justin Williams burned the nets for a game-best seven goals, scoring the first four and final two goals for the Outlaws. He also had an assist. Alec Schartner had a goal and assist, Garrick Langer scored once and Micah Cree had an assist.

In Howe Division playoff action:

Diablos 10, Storm 8

The Diablos scored twice in overtime while holding the Storm scoreless to earn the victory. Jonah Perez and Alec Roberson scored in overtime. Roberson, Corey Childers and Austin Koss each had three goals to pace the offense.

Koss’ third goal of the match tied the score with 11 seconds left in regulation.

Perez, Childers and Matthew Chism each had two assists and Koss and Jessica Childers each had one assist.

Sam Prizler had 21 saves.

Auston Leming scored three times and had three assists and Jeremy Corwin had three goals and two assists for the Storm. Andrew Leming and Kian Nafison each had a goal and assist and Mark Clifford had one assist.

Ricky Zatarain recorded 18 saves.

Rattlers 6, Hawks 4

Goals by Tyler Wilford and Daniel Burkhardt in the final period broke a tie and lifted the Rattlers past the Hawks.

Wilford and Jake Grothjan paced the Rattlers on offense with two goals each. Christopher Kao also scored and Michael Kramer and Kristian Burkhardt each had an assist.

Kyle Aube had 19 saves.

Stephen Goodman, Andrew Schenker, Jonathan Bowles and Alec Lang scored for the Hawks. Goodman and Cara Grant had assists and Savannah Patton had 23 saves.
