Girls under 14
The Green Lighting won their quarterfinal game, 3-2, on a shootout after a 3-3 tie in regulation Saturday in Area Q play.
After two scoreless overtime periods, the game went to a shootout. Tamera Myers, Rochelle Bowlin and Paige Bell-Wheelan scored goals in the shootout for the Green Lightning. During regulation, Gigi Light, Monika Petersen and Bell-Wheelan scored.
Megan Farley, Page Keys, Janet Zelpa, Bowlin and Myers attacked and passed up field all game long. Defensively, Lauren Steinke, Hannah Beek, Andrea O’Campo and Michelle Brookes kept the ball out of the goal and up the field.
Lauren Steinke and MichelleBrookes combined for 12 blocked shots-on-goal.
The Orange Crush, who won the Mayor’s Cup, had then season end in the Area Q championship. The Orange Crush team included Hannah Alderson, Paige Alkire, Hayden Allen, Clara Eddy, Scout Farmer, Emily Fay, Skyler Gullick, Allison Hanscom, Mackenzie Mowery, Mackenzie Paskerian and Rylie Siegfried. Orange Crush was coached by John Fay and Mark Mowery.

Boys’ All-Net Seventh Grade
Newport-Mesa Sailors 59 Irvine Pistons 33: The Sailors improved to 2-0 on the season. Robbie Rettig changed the game in the fourth period rattling off three straight steals for easy layups and finished with 15 points and four steals. Drew Olson, Jackson Pries and Blake Motal were stellar on both sides of the court combining for 24 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks. Connor Kelly and Reid Meckler were stingy on defense causing numerous turnovers while controlling the game on the offensive end. Blake Grable and Nick Hannah played extremely well in the big win combining for 13 points.

Fifth and sixth grade
Trojans 31 Bruins 24: The Trojans evened up their record to 1-1 on the season. Kavi Sakraney led the team with 12 points while Ryan Stone, Conner Davidson, Ben Rowland and David Karamardian protected the ball and played great defense. David Bruno, Grant Nutt and Armen Shrikian did a great job on the defensive boards.
Wildcats 37 Tigers 33: The Wildcats improved to 1-1 on the season with a win over the Tigers. They were led by the stellar play of Robbie Farber and Cameron Hook who both scored 10 points. Chad Redfearn, Kevin Thomsen and Brad Hostetler all played well in the win. The Tigers were led by the play of Kevin and Mark Manchester, as well as Sam Younesi and Conor Hayes
Bears 49 Spartans 37: The Spartans started strong leading by 10 in the first, but the Bears came storming back with a run of their own and finishing off the Spartans in the final period. The Bears were led by Alex Wilde and Shane Silver’s strong shooting along with Matt Ctvrtlik and Kyle Mohan’s tough inside play and transition passing. The Spartans were led by Matt Deverian’s strong defensive play while JB Benzinger and Pat Standel also were standouts on the both ends of the court.
Warriors 53 Red Storm 31: The Warriors improved to 2-0 on the season. After leading by six in the third period, the Warriors ran the table with fast-breaking in the final period. Cole Norris had a career game with 18 points, while Matt Hurst handled the point and ran the fast break adding 13 points. The Red Storm were led by the stellar play of Taylor Cortens, who scored 15 points. Max Kline, Grant Morris, Steven Barela and Ryan Braun all played well in the loss.
Zips 31 Runnin’ Rebels 20: The Zips improved to 2-0 on the season. Joey Cooper, Joe Farris, Connor Sage, Henry Daniel, Luke Shea and Nolan McCarthy all played well in the win. The Rebels were led by the great play of Richard Hagestad, Jay Damon and Brady Shockey.
