ANAHEIM — Senior Jamie McGee scored 16 points to lead the Lightning in their final pool-play game of the Fairmont Prep Tournament Friday.

Senior Zack Melvin added 11 points and senior Nick Witte scored nine for Sage Hill (4-5). Lightning seniors Travis Duncan and Connor Rose scored eight points each.

Sage Hill continues play in the Fairmont Prep Tournament today.

IRVINE — Sophomore Cecil Whiteside scored 14 points, recording his best performance of the season for the Sailors Friday night in a pool-play game of the Irvine World News Tournament at Irvine High.

Senior Kyle Caldwell added 11 points and senior Travis Kuhns had six for Newport Harbor (5-3). Senior Peter Hapke, junior Michael Helfrich, and senior Max Volz all had four points.

The Sailors will play University today at 4:30 at Concordia University.

GARDEN GROVE — Estancia senior Mark Allred had 17 points in the Eagles’ loss in a consolation semifinal of the Garden Grove Tournament Friday night.

Junior Troy McClanahan added seven points, and sophomore Kohl Jones had four for Estancia (2-4). Junior Ryan Knapp made one three-point goal for his only score. Junior Jerome Young, senior Adrian Rogers and junior Tim Neumann scored two points each.

The Eagles play at Oxford Academy Thursday at 7 p.m.

Newport Harbor 13, Irvine 4

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Nina McCall scored four goals to lead the Sailors in the nonleague game Friday at Newport Harbor.

Senior Mimi Bury, bound for Stanford, contributed three assists and two steals for the Sailors (3-0), ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division I preseason coaches’ poll. Newport Harbor senior Amanda Simons also had two steals.

Sophomore Kaleigh Gilchrist, as well as seniors Erin Reid and Elizabeth Wheeler scored two goals each for the Sailors.

Senior Jessica Lincoln, Reid and Gilchrist had one assist each.

Newport Harbor will play at The Bishop’s of La Jolla today at noon.

CYPRESS — Sophomore Katie Bergsma scored 12 points to lead the Sea Kings in a pool-play game of the Oxford Academy Tournament Friday.

Freshman Kayla Marolt, as well as juniors Sami Stern and Jessica Brockett scored four points each for Corona del Mar (5-5), which plays its tourney finale today at Oxford Academy.

Sea Kings Coach Mark Decker was hardly concerned who the opponent would be. He knows it should be another close game.

“We’ve played three games in this tournament,” he said. “We’ve won by one, lost by one and lost by two. We’re right there. Every game is going to be close. They’re all coming down to the end.”

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Junior midfielder Jose Garcia headed in a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Ricky Gomez in the 78th minute of Friday’s game to give Estancia its third tie of the season.

The Eagles (2-3-3) were in danger of losing to Edison (3-0-2) after Dane Sierra scored twice, in the 57th and 73rd minutes, to give the Chargers the lead. Mitchel Alvarez had the first goal for Edison in the 14th minute.

Junior forward Jose Reyes headed in a ball off a cross by junior midfielder Danny Martinez in the 22nd minute to tie the game at 1-1.

The Eagles pulled ahead when Eric Duarte drew a foul in the 18-yard box and converted on the penalty kick.

Estancia returns to action Wednesday, when it will play at Tustin at 4:45 p.m.
