Sourz edge Thunder for title

In the championship match of the girls’ AYSO Region 55 under-12 playoffs tournament, the Sourz edged the Thunder, 1-0, Saturday.
Lauren Delgadillo scored the winning goal in the first half, with the assist going to Shelby Hayes, as the Sourz advanced to postseason regional play.
The Sourz’ players are forwards Lindsay Danley and Emilie Bergman, goalkeeper Maria Steadmon, midfielders Amber Rodriguez, Elizabeth Ghazarian, Vivian Gay and Carolyn Yee and defenders Krista Apardian, Gabriella Hammock, Madeline Bragg and Erin Ozturk.

In Round 1 of the playoffs, the Thunder defeated an Icebreakers team that captured first place and had gone undefeated during the regular season.
The winning play was started by Simone Corkett in midfield. Corkett sent a long pass to Shelby Rawlinson whose quick pass to Dana Conlisk caught the Icebreakers off-guard, and Conlisk netted what turned out to be the only goal of the match.
Thunder players who contributed to their successful season were goalkeepers Nicole Rodriguez and Makenna Pacho, strikers Carly Boydston, Addison Price and Erica Shields, halfbacks Erica Fox, Samantha Crowder and Lauren Anderson, and fullbacks Katelyn Lund and Athena Hillas.

Wolfpack clinches title
The Wolfpack Wolverines girls’ under-12 soccer team from Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley won one game and played to a tie in the second last weekend to clinch first-place in the Coast Soccer League Bronze Omega division.
In the final weekend of league play, both victories came at the expense of the California Futbal Club Extreme of Garden Grove.
In the first game played Saturday, the Wolverines, despite missing several key players due to injury or travel, managed a 2-1 victory on the road.
They dominated the first half of play with key passes and strong kicks and took a 1-0 lead midway through the half when a strong corner kick by midfielder Kelsey Wetzstein crossed right in front of the Extreme net and teammate Caitlin Bartusick was positioned to punch the ball into the goal.
Despite controlling the first half, Extreme was able to score the tying goal just before halftime.
In the second half, Kaela Blanco who, on a breakaway, scored on a one-on-one situation with the Extreme goalie.
In their final game of the weekend, played Sunday at Fountain Valley High, Wolfpack and Extreme played to a scoreless tie.
Wolfpack concluded division play with a the same record, 10-1-2 as cross-town rival Extreme Heat but defeated the Heat once (5-1) and the teams played to a scoreless tie in another meeting during the season.
Making key contributions to the Wolverines first-place finish were Abby O’Toole, Amanda Stark, Brittney Stevens, Caitlin Bartusick, Erika Faria, Kaela Blanco, Katie Lespier, Kelsea Arenado, Kelsey Wetzstein, Keana Collier, Laney Ehlers, Shelle Zito, Skylar Wilson, Taylor Oliver and Valerie Stark.
