GIRLS’ SOCCER

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Freshman forward Tessa Andujar had one goal and one assist for the Sea Kings in their pool-play game of the Ocean View Tournament Friday.

Andujar passed to sophomore midfielder Hailey Raguse, who scored in the 32nd minute to put the Sea Kings ahead, 2-0. She took a cross from Ashley Smith in the 40th minute, and beat two defenders to make the score 3-0.

Freshman defender Scarlett Fallon collected the ball from freshman defender Kaylee O’Connor’s midfield free kick to score the final goal for the Sea Kings.

Junior midfielder Cosette Andujar scored an unassisted goal in the 16th minute for CdM’s opening score.

Goalkeepers Lindsey Luke and Corey Cano each had one save.

CdM (1-1), will face Mayfair today at 9 a.m. and Troy at 12:30 p.m. in the tourney.

ANAHEIM — Freshman Haley Kunert scored a career-high seven goals to key the Eagles in their final pool-play game of the Magnolia Tournament Friday at Loara High.

Junior Amber Peters scored four goals and senior Megan Kunert added two for the winners (3-1), who advance to today’s ninth-place semifinals at 1:50 p.m. at Cypress High against an opponent to be determined.

Junior Emily Kaplan made 10 saves, holding the Lions scoreless in the second half, while first-year coach Jennifer Perry also praised the play of freshmen Eagles Ashley Peters and Kylie Carpenter.

CORONA DEL MAR — Elise Molnar scored three goals for the Sea Kings, including one in the second overtime of a season-opening nonleague match Friday.

Molnar tied it with 35 seconds left in the second overtime, but CdM, ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section Division I preseason coaches’ poll, was unable to score again.

Alex Hill scored the game-winner for Dos Pueblos of Goleta, No. 4 in Division II, in the fourth overtime at the 1:15 mark.

Victoria Kennedy and Heather Van Hiel each scored twice for the Sea Kings.

RIVERSIDE — Senior Kyle Cadwell had 31 points to lead the Sailors (3-1) to the win in the third-place game in the Citrus Hills Tournament Friday.

Max Volz added 16 points, while Travis Kuhns and Taylor Friend both added three-point goals in the winning effort at Riverside Poly.

Battle by the Bay

Tournament

Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar each went 3-0 on the first day of the two-day, 17-team tournament at Newport Harbor High Friday.

Newport Harbor 140-pounder Josh George won each of his three matches as did Josh Lithgow (160-pound division), Edgar Guadarrama (171) and Cameron Rausch (heavyweight). The Sailors beat Aliso Niguel, 43-26, Saddleback, 66-13, and Orange, 39-36.

CdM earned victories against Victor Valley, Knight and Brentwood. Estancia, which only brought five wrestlers, finished 0-3.

Today’s action will feature a 16-team bracket with pool play starting at 9 a.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Pacific Hills 65,

Costa Mesa 56

COSTA MESA — After falling behind 11 at halftime, the Mustangs outscored last year’s CIF Southern Section III-AA finalist, 33-31, in the second half of a nonleague game Friday at Costa Mesa.

Senior Michelle Figueroa led the Mustangs (0-2) with 24 points and she also had seven rebounds.

Amy Gentling had 12 points for Mesa, which received nine rebounds and four points from Jasmine Werdel.

Costa Mesa plays Los Alamitos Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the opener of the Fountain Valley Tournament at Fountain Valley High.
