Murphy, Sias honored by Big West soccer coaches

UC Irvine men’s soccer standouts Matt Murphy and David Sias were named second-team All-Big West Conference by conference coaches.

Murphy, chosen third-team preseason All-American by Soccer News after earning Big West Midfielder of the Year laurels as a sophomore, had nine goals and two assists as a junior midfielder for the Anteaters, who finished 6-9-5, 1-8-3 in conference.

Murphy has 22 goals and 11 assists for his career.

Sias, a junior defender, helped Coach George Kuntz’s team produce four shutouts this season. He also added one assist, starting all 18 of the games he played in.

Senior defender Brandon Foster, who had one goal and two assists and was the only Anteater to start all 20 games, received honorable mention.
