Costa Mesa police arrested a man whom they caught prowling around an apartment complex with a dagger early Saturday morning, Lt. Dale Birney said.
Shortly before 3 a.m., police received a call about a man wandering around the Camden Martinique Apartments at 2855 Pinecreek Drive with a foot-long kitchen knife. Officers arrived at the complex and arrested Joshua Lehauli, 20, of Costa Mesa.
“He had apparently been involved in a physical altercation earlier with some other people, and he told the officers he was looking for the people that beat him up,” Birney said.
Lehauli was charged with possession of a dagger, possession of a controlled substance and public drunkenness and held at the city jail on $25,000 bail. Birney could not say whether he was a resident of the Camden Martinique complex.
