UCI’s DePaul, Erazo earn repeat conference honors

UC Irvine sophomore Lyndsay DePaul and senior teammate Eddie Erazo were named Big West Athletes of the Week following their performances at the Lincoln Aquatics Shootout.

DePaul, last season’s Big West Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year, won five events in the competition.

She earned NCAA ‘B’ times in the 200-meter fly (1minute, 59.41 seconds), the 500 free and the 1650 free. DePaul set records in the 500 free (4:45.33) and the 1650 free (16:45.28). set new UC Irvine records.

Erazo won both the 200 butterfly and broke his own record in the 200 backstroke in a field that included No. 19 Hawaii and BYU. Erazo’s time of 1:47.04 is an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time and it marked the senior’s personal best.

This is the third time being honored by the conference for Erazo and the second for DePaul.

The Anteaters will travel to Tucson, Ariz. Saturday to face the No. 4 Arizona men, the No. 4 Arizona women and the No. 14 UCLA women.
